Are there festivals in the summer in Rhodes?

I’m planning a trip to Rhodes, Greece, and I've heard that the island is not just about stunning beaches and breathtaking landscapes, but it’s also rich in culture and offers a variety of festivals throughout the year. I’m really excited about the possibility of aligning my visit with one of these cultural events!

Can anyone share recommendations for festivals in Rhodes? I’m interested in anything from traditional Greek celebrations to music, art, and food festivals. Anything that will allow me to soak in the local culture and make my trip even more memorable.

I usually just "see the sites" when I am in Greece. This is my second time on Rhodes, so now I am looking for something different to do.
 
The biggest festivals are New Year & Easter.This year Easter is in early May.Villages have so called festivals. They are mainly just street markers selling carpets ,clothes, shoes & a lot of childrens toys.Some villges have "' festivals"" for food ie selling strawberries , mellon , oranges & olives

The Medieval festival of Rhodes does not happen every year.

The Medieval festival looks like a good time! I think it's back on since Covid, right?

Some other ideas:
  • Lindos Acropolis Events: Cultural events held at the ancient Lindos Acropolis, including music concerts, theater performances, and art exhibitions.
  • Rhodes Summer Festival: A diverse program of music, dance, theater, and film screenings, held at various venues across the island.
  • Hippocrates Festival: Celebrating the legacy of Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, with lectures, workshops, and wellness events.
  • Symi Festival: An annual cultural extravaganza on the nearby island of Symi, featuring traditional music, dance, and food.

Valley of Butterflies in Rhodes?

I learned about this cool place on Rhdoes I want to see.

Valley of Butterflies is a sanctuary on Rhodes for severe; species of butterflies and is worth a visit. This natural haven is nestled in the middle of a winding stream and surrounded by rocky hills, flowers, and trees. The valley is home to abundant flora and fauna, including 150 different types of butterflies and moths such as the Jersey Tiger Moth, the Spotted Fritillary Butterfly, and the Painted Lady Butterfly.

The best time to visit this natural paradise is from late June to early September. During this period, the butterflies start their 5-day mating cycle, creating beautiful yellow-colored walls along the Rhodos stream. Visiting this place during this period gives you the chance to revel in the delightful colors and aroma of butterflies fluttering around your head.

I don't know I fi will have a chance to go next year, but it really does look neat!

Update on Rhodes after the fires?

I know that Rhodes had a rough summer. I am starting to think about planning my trip to Greece for September 2024. I don't know yet what my plan is, but I always wanted to go to Rhodes to see the Lindos Acropolis area and the Knights of Saint John. I have some people in my party who are history buffs and they would be thrilled if we finally went. We didn't go last year because of all that was going on in the island.

But, I am starting to see Rhodes appear again on Cruise itineraries, and cruising might be a possibility for us because we will be traveling with multiple generations.

For those of you who know the island well, or even might know people on the island, what do you think?

Best Historical Landmarks to See in Rhodes

I am working on planning a trip to Rhodes and am trying to prioritize which ones I should see. I've come up with a list. Did I miss anything? Realistically, I might only have time to see about 5 places, but I want more on the list than I can see so I can decide what seems the most interesting to me.

Here's what I have:
  1. Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes
  2. Rhodes Old Town Walls
  3. Acropolis of Lindos
  4. Street of the Knights
  5. Archaeological Museum of Rhodes
  6. Castle of Monolithos
