I'm planning a trip to Corfu and would love to get some insights from this community. From the breathtaking beaches to the rich historical sites, I'm eager to explore what Corfu has to offer but would like to narrow down my list to ensure I see the top attractions.

Could anyone share their personal favorites or must-see spots in Corfu? I'm interested in both popular tourist destinations and any hidden gems you think shouldn't be missed. Additionally, if there are specific local dishes or restaurants that you believe are quintessential to the Corfu experience, I'd appreciate those recommendations as well.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Some ideas:

1. Explore Corfu Town (Kerkyra)

Stroll through the charming alleyways of Corfu Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The town’s unique blend of Venetian, French, and British architecture transports you back in time. Don’t miss the chance to visit the Old Fortress for panoramic views of the city and sea.

2. Relax on the Beautiful Beaches

From the pebbly coves to the sandy stretches, Corfu's beaches are among the most beautiful in Greece. Sidari, Paleokastritsa, and Glyfada are some of the must-visit beaches where you can sunbathe, swim, or indulge in water sports.

3. Visit Achilleion Palace

This neoclassical palace was built for Empress of Austria, Elizabeth of Bavaria, also known as Sisi. The palace is set in beautifully landscaped gardens with statues and offers stunning views over the island.

What other islands are near Corfu?

I've heard that slands like Paxos, Antipaxos, and Erikoussa, might be close to Corfu but I'm curious to learn more from you guys. What are these islands like? Are they easily accessible from Corfu? What unique attractions, beaches, or cultural experiences do they offer? If these islands aren't close, can you think of ones that are?

I want to island hop a bit this summer, and I am trying to decide if Corfu is a good home base or if I should consider another island.

Religious Sites to See on Corfu

There are a lot of churches and monasteries in Corfu and when I visit, I won't have a lot of time. What should be my priorities?

I am intrigued by the relics of Saint Spyridon but am having trouble finding where they are on the island. Is it simply called, the Shrine of Saint Spyridon?

I would love to visit some other churches and monasteries if possible. Any information you have will be good!

Advice for seeing Byzantine sites in Corfu

I'm planning a trip to Corfu and, as someone deeply fascinated by Byzantine history, I'm eager to discover all the Byzantine sites and remnants the island has to offer. From what I've gathered, Corfu's heritage is rich with Byzantine influences, and I'm hoping to immerse myself in this aspect of the island's history.

Could anyone share recommendations on must-visit Byzantine sites in Corfu? Are there specific churches, museums, or ruins that stand out? I'm particularly interested in places that offer a glimpse into the everyday life and the architectural magnificence of the Byzantine period.

Additionally, if there are any tips on guided tours or resources for deepening my understanding of Byzantine history while in Corfu, I would greatly appreciate it. I’m also curious about any local guides or historians specializing in this era.

I’m currently planning a trip to Corfu, and I’ve been intrigued by the pictures and mentions of Kanoni and the iconic Mouse Island (Pontikonisi).
