Thessaloniki has two very famous landmarks: the white tower and the the arch of galerius. The history behind this arch is actually very fascinating, it was built in 305 C.E. to signify Galerius’ win from the Persian empire. The arch is now a very popular tourist site, and there is an open space around it where people walk around and enjoy the view of the water. You will definitely stumble upon it on your next trip to Thessaloniki.

I have never been to Thessaloniki and would like to in the near future. I can't wait to see these iconic sites in person! I always see it in photos, and it seems so important to the city.
 
It just wouldn't be Thessaloniki without seeing this landmark! I always try to get a photo of it from different perspectives when I am in Thessaloniki.

Good markets to visit in Thessaloniki?

I'm planning a visit to Thessaloniki soon, and I'm really keen on exploring the local markets there. I've heard that the city is rich in history and culture, and I believe that visiting local markets is one of the best ways to immerse oneself in the local atmosphere and perhaps find some unique items to bring back home.

Does anyone have recommendations for markets in Thessaloniki that are worth visiting? Visiting the Museum for Macedonian Struggle in Thessaloniki?

I'm planning a trip to Thessaloniki soon and I've heard a lot about the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. It seems like a place with rich historical significance and I'm keen on exploring more about the region's history through this museum. I would appreciate any advice or insights from those who have visited or are familiar with the museum.

  5. Discover modern art at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art.
  6. Visit the archaeological site of Dion to see ancient ruins and artifacts from the Hellenistic and Roman periods.
  7. Explore the traditional village of Arnea for its charming architecture, cobblestone streets, and local crafts.

What are your favorite things to do in Thessaloniki?

I am thinking of taking a trip to Thessaloniki next year. I am trying to think of what to do. I just want a rough idea so I can figure out how many days to spend.

Here's what I was thinking for some activities, but I want to know your recommendations:
  • Taking a walk along the beautiful waterfront promenade
  • Exploring the historical White Tower
  • Savoring delicious Greek cuisine at the local tavernas
