I am thinking of visiting Thessaloniki this summer to visit a few friends and learn more about the history of the city...I am wondering where would be the best place to stay? What is the niehgborhood that is most central and next to the most activities? What would you recommend?

Maybe this article can help you find a good area? There are a lot of options:

Anyone else have any advice? I don't know a heck of a lot about Thessaloniki... I only went once, and I was too young to remember much.

Hey there. Guess it’s OK, mate. Have you tried looking for some hotels on Airbnb or booking dot com? When I went to Surfers Paradise, we stayed at a random hotel my son found. As I remember, it was a Novotel Surfers Paradise hotel. My son just googled hotels near me and chose it. We had an urgent flight too, so we didn’t plan to stay there for a long time actually. Still, life has its own plans. We stayed there for a week or two. It’s a nice hotel to stay at, actually. So, hope it will be helpful for you.

I've come across the buzz that Thessaloniki ranks high as a sought-after spot in Greece. It's on my radar for a future trip, likely in the upcoming summer.

Thessaloniki is a fantastic choice for your summer trip! The city center is where it's all happening, and it's close to a ton of activities. If you're looking for recommendations, you can't go wrong with areas like Ladadika or hanging around Aristotelous Square. These spots are buzzing with life, and you'll have easy access to historical sites, great dining, and vibrant nightlife. As someone who's always itching to explore, I get it! Recently, I had the chance to dive into Memphis and let me tell you, it's got some killer places to crash. If you ever find yourself in Bluff City, you've gotta check out my personal favorites for the best places to stay in Memphis. They'll add a whole new level of awesomeness to your trip.

Taking a History Tour of Thessaloniki

I'm planning a trip to Thessaloniki soon and I'm really excited about exploring the rich history of this vibrant city. I've heard so much about its Byzantine heritage, Ottoman influence, and its pivotal role in various historical events. As someone deeply passionate about history, I want to make the most out of my visit by going on a comprehensive history tour.

I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with history tours in Thessaloniki and could recommend some options? I'm particularly interested in tours that cover key historical sites, such as the White Tower, Byzantine churches, and any lesser-known gems that offer insight into the city's past.

Additionally, if anyone has specific tour guides or companies they can vouch for, I'd greatly appreciate it. I value knowledgeable guides who can provide engaging narratives and context to the sites we visit.

Thanks in advance!

Visiting Aristotelous Square Question

I will be in Thessaloniki staying near Aristotelous Square. If anyone familiar with the area could advise on:
  • Best cafes and eateries
  • Hidden gems or lesser-known spots
  • Any cultural/historical points of interest
  • Tips on navigating the square
  • Event schedules or seasonal recommendations
Thanks in advance! Grateful for any advice you can give. I will just be there for a few days. I don't know much about Thessaloniki.

Heard there was a Christmas market in Thessaloniki?

I want to do something festive this year in Greece. I am going to be in Thessaloniki for a short time and I heard that there is actually a Christmas market? Is it any good?

Do any of you have any details?

I heard the market is in Aristotelous Square, but that's all I know about it. I am assuming there will be vendors and things to buy - maybe I can do some Christmas shopping here?

New Year's Celebration in Thessaloniki?

Does anyone know what is going on in Thessaloniki for New Year's? There's a chance I could be in the city this year during it and I want to get a feel for what to expect. I went to Greece to visit some family over Christmas.

I heard that they light fireworks at midnight somewhere? Is this true? I'll be visiting some people, so I am assuming they know what is going on, but I want to have a general feel for it.

Some cities have a big celebration outside. I didn't know if Thessaloniki was one of those places.

What are your favorite things to do in Thessaloniki?

I am thinking of taking a trip to Thessaloniki next year. I am trying to think of what to do. I just want a rough idea so I can figure out how many days to spend.

Here's what I was thinking for some activities, but I want to know your recommendations:
  • Taking a walk along the beautiful waterfront promenade
  • Exploring the historical White Tower
  • Savoring delicious Greek cuisine at the local tavernas
What activities or spots would you recommend? I'm interested in everything from cultural experiences, food destinations, hidden gems, to some relaxation spots. And of course, if there are any events or local gatherings happening, I'd be thrilled to join and immerse myself in the local culture.
