I am thinking of visiting Thessaloniki this summer to visit a few friends and learn more about the history of the city...I am wondering where would be the best place to stay? What is the niehgborhood that is most central and next to the most activities? What would you recommend?

Maybe this article can help you find a good area? There are a lot of options:

Anyone else have any advice? I don't know a heck of a lot about Thessaloniki... I only went once, and I was too young to remember much.

Hey there. Guess it’s OK, mate. Have you tried looking for some hotels on Airbnb or booking dot com? When I went to Surfers Paradise, we stayed at a random hotel my son found. As I remember, it was a Novotel Surfers Paradise hotel. My son just googled hotels near me and chose it. We had an urgent flight too, so we didn’t plan to stay there for a long time actually. Still, life has its own plans. We stayed there for a week or two. It’s a nice hotel to stay at, actually. So, hope it will be helpful for you.

I've come across the buzz that Thessaloniki ranks high as a sought-after spot in Greece. It's on my radar for a future trip, likely in the upcoming summer.

Thessaloniki is a fantastic choice for your summer trip! The city center is where it's all happening, and it's close to a ton of activities. If you're looking for recommendations, you can't go wrong with areas like Ladadika or hanging around Aristotelous Square. These spots are buzzing with life, and you'll have easy access to historical sites, great dining, and vibrant nightlife. As someone who's always itching to explore, I get it! Recently, I had the chance to dive into Memphis and let me tell you, it's got some killer places to crash. If you ever find yourself in Bluff City, you've gotta check out my personal favorites for the best places to stay in Memphis. They'll add a whole new level of awesomeness to your trip.

Taking a History Tour of Thessaloniki

I'm planning a trip to Thessaloniki soon and I'm really excited about exploring the rich history of this vibrant city. I've heard so much about its Byzantine heritage, Ottoman influence, and its pivotal role in various historical events. As someone deeply passionate about history, I want to make the most out of my visit by going on a comprehensive history tour.

I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with history tours in Thessaloniki and could recommend some options? I'm particularly interested in tours that cover key historical sites, such as the White Tower, Byzantine churches, and any lesser-known gems that offer insight into the city's past.

Additionally, if anyone has specific tour guides or companies they can vouch for, I'd greatly appreciate it. I value knowledgeable guides who can provide engaging narratives and context to the sites we visit.

Thanks in advance!

Byzantine heritage of Thessaloniki?

I've recently developed a keen interest in Byzantine history and its remarkable cultural heritage. Having read that Thessaloniki has a rich tapestry of Byzantine monuments and sites, I'm reaching out to this knowledgeable community for some insight.

I'd love to hear anyone's experiences in visiting Thessaloniki with a focus on its Byzantine past. Could you share recommendations on must-see sites? Particularly, I'm interested in the architecture related to Byzantium and if there's a museum about it I can visit.

Thanks in advance!

Visiting Kapani Market in Thessaloniki – What to Expect?

I'm planning a trip to Thessaloniki soon and I've been reading up on places to visit. Kapani Market (also known as Vlali Market) keeps popping up as a must-visit spot for an authentic local experience. From what I gather, it’s one of the oldest markets in the city, steeped in history and bustling with life.

I'm really keen to explore it, but I want to make the most out of my visit. Could anyone who has been there share what exactly you can find at Kapani Market? From fresh produce to local delicacies, what are the things that I absolutely shouldn't miss? Are there any particular stalls or specialities? Also, I read that bargaining is quite common there – any tips on how to do it like a pro?

Apart from the shopping experience, I’m also interested in understanding the cultural aspect. How does the market fit into the daily life of locals? Can you get a good sense of the local cuisine and lifestyle by wandering around?

Lastly, any practical tips for visiting would be greatly appreciated – best times to go, how to get there, or any nearby attractions to combine with the market visit.

Thanks in advance for the help! Really looking forward to experiencing the vibrant atmosphere I keep reading about.
